I mentioned in one of my comments that I designed some cute little bird houses and Con made them up out of scrap wood that was going to the dump one year and I painted them. I did them in all colors with cute flowers, trees, cats, dogs and what not on the sides. These were for decorating purposes but some ended up outside. Hubby at first made white picket fences around the bottoms out of Popsicle sticks & glued them on but they didn't stay on outside and it was to time consuming to do when people saw them and started ordering them for gifts. So I painted on brick. I wanted it to be like a little cottage with a planter around the house with flowers in it. I added personal things if they wanted.. like their name or their cat. It had to be simple.
Andrea asked me to post them but I cant find my photos at the moment. I have so many tons of photos to go thru.. that will be a project SOON.. anyway I found these two pictures of a lamp we made out of the houses. I had always wanted a cute lamp so we experimented and built one and I still have it. Someone saw it and begged me to do one for them. This is the photo of the one for them. Mine has rose vines going up and around the hole in front.
The bird houses were like this but with out the lamp kit on it. ;) We did some other styles too. After awhile I got tired of doing them AND we ran out of that nice FREE wood so it wasn't cost effective anymore, but it was fun while it lasted. I still have a few of the bird houses he built and I painted. I couldnt part with all of them.
I will keep looking for the other photos Andrea.

Cris, this birdhouse lamp is just charming. How fun to have more bird houses like it outdoors for the birds to enjoy.
It was also interesting to read about your reason for moving to Oregon and to see the difference in your living styles then and now.
I can see why you'd prefer where you are now. Happy that you found a nice big spacious place to enjoy your art, and your life.
Cris the bird house lamp is lovely. I like the little bird sitting on the peg. No wonder other folks wanted some.
Yes, I too was interested in the comparison of before living place and after living place. Sounds like you have room to breathe in OR. I'm glad you found your home with land to rake and mow and plant gardens and view birds and your sunroom to sit in and paint in. Hurrah.
